Handok’s HSE Policy
With our excellent products and services, we aim to improve human health and quality of life and contribute to society through social contribution activities. We strive to be a company that is respected by society, healthy, safe, and environmentally friendly by establishing and applying the following health, safety, and environmental policies
  • We conduct our business activities with the mindset of creating a healthy, safe, and clean environment for humanity.
  • We comply with domestic and international regulations and other requirements, setting and applying stricter internal standards.
  • We assess risks and opportunities to effectively operate the health, safety, and environmental management system and implement continuous improvements
  • We conduct health, safety, and environmental risk assessments to improve potential hazards and identified risks.
  • We consider health, safety, and environmental aspects when developing or transferring new products and minimizing health, safety, and environmental impacts from products and processes.
  • We set health, safety, and environmental goals and strive to achieve them, annually evaluating and disclosing our performance.
  • We minimize environmental impacts through efforts to mitigate climate change and actively use sustainable resources to protect biodiversity and ecosystems.
  • We continuously carry out volunteer activities to contribute to the development of the local community and fulfill our corporate social responsibility.
  • We recommend our health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations to employees of partner and contract companies and ensure they follow them.
  • We ensure active consultation and participation of all employees in the operation of the health, safety, and environmental management system.

HSE Management
Health
  • Conducting employee health check-ups and supporting influenza vaccination, implementing no-smoking campaigns.
  • Operating “Mom’s Room”, a dedicated rest area for pregnant employees at headquarters and research centers.
  • Measuring ultrafine dust on all floors of Handok headquarters to create a comfortable environment.
  • Handok Campus is recognized as an excellent workplace for worker health promotion activities by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (since 2014).

    - Continuously improving processes by evaluating job stress (mental health promotion) and musculoskeletal burden by process.
    - Providing incentives for improving physical fitness grades through the National Fitness 100 program (organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, conducted by the National Sports Promotion Corporation).
    - Providing futsal fields for the health promotion of industrial complex workers.

  • Equipping all major buildings with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and conducting hands-on CPR training for all employees at Handok Campus.
  • Creating a healthy work environment through work environment measurements and chemical hazard assessments.
 
Safety
  • Maintaining ISO45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) certification since 2002.
  • Conducting training and education for chemical spills and fire response.
  • Performing annual risk assessments across Handok Campus.
  • Conducting monthly joint safety inspections with the production head and union chairman at Handok Campus.
  • Employees themselves discover minor accidents on-site through “near-miss accident case discovery activities”, improving over 200 cases annually.
  • Implementing a work permit system to ensure safety measures are in place before work is carried out for tasks with anticipated risks, such as hot work.
  • Introducing certified compliant equipment and conducting post-installation safety inspections for hazardous and dangerous equipment according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
  • Preventing accidents through the use of lockout and tagout devices during maintenance and other hazardous work.
 
Environment
  • Declaring eco-friendly management in 1997 and maintaining the status of a Green Company designated by the Ministry of Environment since 2000.
  • Maintaining ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) certification since 2002.
  • Building an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and establishing a long-term reduction roadmap.
  • Handok Future Complex installed solar power systems, used eco-friendly materials, and received a first-class certification in green building and energy efficiency.
    (Won the “Minister of Environment Award” at the 18th Korea Eco-Environmental Architecture Awards in 2023).
  • Operating a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) to minimize air pollutants generated in the plaster production process.
  • Signing an MOU with the Wonju Regional Environmental Office, participating in environmental technology support mentoring, and joining the “One Company One Ecosystem Disturbance Plant Removal” project.
  • Handok Campus, installing solar power generation facilities (1.2 MW) from 2023 to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Implementing strategies to reduce and improve greenhouse gas emissions, wastewater, and waste generated during pharmaceutical production.
